Gabriel Diano’s passion for horses started early in life. He was raised surrounded by horses in the breathtaking countryside of Uruguay. With guidance from his father Jorge Diano, and grandfather Brigido Diano, Gabriel bought his first horse in 1991. Powered by Ms. Janet Henderson, organizer of equestrian sports in Uruguay, Gabriel began participating in various disciplines of equine training including barrel racing, drum, polo, and reining. His passion focused on reining, and over time the skill and techniques demonstrated by horses Gabriel Diano trained began to catch peoples attention.
In 2005 Gabriel had the opportunity to compete in Brazil riding Harmonico del Chamame. This trip changed his life, firstly, he met his wife, Maria Ines, who shared his passion and appreciation for horses. And secondly, he along with the support of his new wife made the decision to move to Porto Alegre. It was a difficult decision to make, leaving behind friends and family, but it placed him in the center of the growing Reining industry, and offered greater opportunities as a competitor and trainer.
In 2006 Gabriel competed in both the ANCR Futurity and AGCR Futurity, he walked away with impressive titles in each show which placed him in a fabulous position as both a competitor and a trainer. The following year held more achievements for Gabriel. Setting records aboard Whiz Shady MA in the ANCR Super Stakes, they earned and unprecedented 76.5 points, walking away with two championships and one reserve championship.
In 2008 Gabriel made the trip to the USA to compete in the NRHA Derby, he rode Whiz Shady MA, owned by Roberto Jose Ribas, and returned with the title of Limited Open Derby Champion. In 2009 he traveled to Katy, Texas, and won the NRBC Open 25K, aboard Whiz Shady MA, with a score of 230.5 from the judges – he topped the class by three whole points! This placed him amongst the Top Ten scores in the country. Whiz Shady MA, under Diano’s guidance, also won the Limited Open and Intermediate Open ancillary classes throughout the week at the NRBC.
2010, a year Gabriel’s riding and training abilities propelled him to fame in Brazil, he won the Triple crown – 3 shows, 3 championships, the first time ever such a feat has been accomplished.
In just 5 years of competition, Gabriel had earned his place in the record books, Top Rider, along with a series of unparalled scores.
