Pedro Baiao grew up riding horses on his grandparents farm. By the age of 15, Pedro found his passion in riding reining horses. Subsequently, Pedro made decision to do an internship with Franco Bertolani and spent a year with him. At the age of 16, he came to the United States to do an internship for a year with the trainer Doug Milholand.
Most importantly, Pedro believes that the horses always come first. He believes that performances where we don’t get the desired performance teach us how to improve. On the other hand, the ones that we get better results reinforce that we are on the right path!
Without a doubt, Pedro makes sure all of his horses are in tip-top shape by feeding ExcelEQ ProElite!
Additionally, some of Pedro’s top achievements are:
- 2012 L1 & L2 NRHA Futurity Champion
- 2016 L2 NRHA Futurity Champion
- 2018 tied the NRBC L4 Reserve Champion with Andrea Fappani and Epic Titan.
- 2018 NRBC L3 Champion.
- 2020, finished 9th overall in the NRHA ranking!
Lately, Pedro opened his own business Pedro Baiao Reining in Cave Creek, Arizona, and heads up the breeding and training program at Gordon Quarter Horses (owned by Marc & Kathy Gordon). He is supported and accompanied by his wife, Ana, son, Benjamin, and daughter Mya. Competing is what he loves most, this is what he had to say about his favorite reining maneuver.
“I enjoy the stop into the slide as a reiner! It is the most dramatic move that impresses the audience and it sometimes has to be done 3-4 times in a competition. The challenge is to put your signature on it and do it well!”
