Cat Zimmerman: Horsemanship Expert and Mustang Enthusiast

Cat Zimmerman's journey with horses began at the young age of 3, starting in an English lesson barn and growing up riding Hunter/Jumper. However, it wasn’t long before Cat’s path took a life-changing turn when she encountered the magnificent mustangs of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in 2015.

At just 12 years old, Cat picked up her first mustang and trained it for the prestigious Extreme Mustang Makeover. That moment sparked a passion that would define her future, and from then on, mustangs became her focus. Over the years, Cat’s experience in the Extreme Mustang Makeover competition allowed her to claim numerous accolades, including:

Cat's love for mustangs grew as she continued to develop and train these beautiful, wild horses. Moving from youth competitions into the adult division, Cat expanded her skill set by taking outside horses for training. She also dedicated her time to working with mustangs at liberty, performing trick training and bridleless work to showcase their incredible capabilities at various events across the country. Through these demonstrations, she was able to spread awareness about the mustangs and show the world just how much potential they hold.

Growing in the Industry

Now, as a full-time horse trainer specializing in mustangs, Cat offers a wide range of services. While she still focuses on mustangs, her program is open to all breeds, offering colt starting, under-saddle development, problem-solving, and more. Cat’s work doesn’t stop at training; she also takes in mustangs each year to gentle, train, and find them suitable homes.

In addition to her training, Cat teaches clinics at her farm in Florida, where she helps horse owners develop a deeper connection with their horses through liberty work. She also enjoys showing her personal mustangs in Ranch and Extreme Cowboy Racing locally when she has some free time.

This year, Cat has a new mustang that she’s prepping for the Mustang Champions "Mustang Challenge" and "Mustang Classic." It’s clear that her passion for mustangs and commitment to improving equine-human relationships will continue to inspire and grow.
